Bischoff DAYTON DAILY NEWS COMMISSION TO ADVISE PERO INTERIM CITY MANAGER TO BE PAID $122,000 Acting city manager Maureen Pero will have full authority to run the city but will get direction from Dayton City Commissioners in weekly meetings beginning Monday, Mayor Mike Turner said Friday. Commissioners and Pero met privately for an hour Friday to discuss personnel issues. Commissioners decided Pero will be paid an annual salary of $122,000 while she is acting city manager. It is the same wage paid to City Manager Bill Estabrook before he was fired Wednesday in a 4-1 vote. Pero had been paid $75,000 a year as Daytons economic development director. She will receive a $3,500 to $5,000 a year raise when a city manager is hired and she returns to run the economic development department, city officials said. Commissioners have said they hope to have a city manager hired by May 1. Turner said Pero will review candidates for the post of information technology director who will oversee computer and communication systems. She will recommend an appointment to the commission, he said. Pero said Norm Essman, the economic development departments division manager, will be acting department director. Pero and Essman will divide economic development projects, she said. Commissioners picked Pero as interim city manager in part because she is familiar with a number of economic development projects.
