That respect helped her reach a higher level Wednesday when the Dayton CityCommission named her interim city manager. Pero will manage 2,500 employees and navigate a $151.7 million general fundbudget while a national search is conducted to replace Bill Estabrook, who wasfired by 4-1 vote of the City Commission on Wednesday. Pero, who began her career with the city 11 years ago in the Law Department, said she plans to use the skills acquired along the way to performher new duties. She started as an assistant city attorney, was promoted to chief general counsel and served as general counsel in the city manager's office until 1989.She then moved to the economic development department. ``I am committed to customer service.
